Hi I’m Josh Erickson and for some reason, be it boredom or interest, you’re reading my about page. So I’ll attempt to fill you in on some of the details.Believe it or not, but I used to be a blond baby from the sands of Hawaii. However my father left the navy to move back to the heartland of Minnesota and we’ve been here ever since. For most of that time I was an awkward youth as my interests never seemed to be clearly defined. In other words, I didn’t have really any hobbies. Then one day our family got our first computer and I was hooked. I couldn’t tell you what components were and little did I care, I could play games.
Nothing much changed until after we upgraded and got a Gateway with a Pentium 2 (or was it 3?), 64MB SD RAM, and an 8 GB hard drive as well as an internet connection. At the time I wasn’t very technically savvy, so I just played games and used Paint. After a while though I was starting to do some simple web design on Geocities, Angelfire, and the like. There was even some dabbling into computer programming, but it never got far as it was still way above my head and I didn’t even know what a compiler was.
Enter 1998-99, I purchased my first not-preinstalled-on-the-system game. It was HardWar, probably the best game every made for Windows 98 besides BattleZone and FreeSpace. One thing lead to another and before I knew it I was learning 3D artistry and was starting web design again. Up until maybe a year or two ago you would have been able to find my work, but since they were on free web hosts and abandoned since forever, the content was purged from the internet…forever.
After moving on to modding such games as FreeSpace I got back into computer programming, ironically enough because I wanted an easier to administer site for my creations for the game. Soon however my interest for programming overtook my artsy creativity and now I almost only do code. I find it to be an easier art, pretty much poetry…but for computers. There is nothing like a well designed algorithm. Now with attending college and holding down tech job at a local accounting firm, I don’t have much time to just sit from of the computer and program like I used to.
Outside of computer technology, I enjoy many of the things everyone does. For instance, I enjoy hanging out with friends or sitting around the table at family gatherings sharing laugh out loud stories. Music is another interest, though only in the listening area. Much of the time I only listen to bands I know and will only branch out after sampling something new off the radio or a recommendation from a friend.
I am also practicing the martial art of Tae Kwon Do. The primary reason is to get into better shape. It is an intense sport so far and I have noticed differences since starting. Things such as I can do more sit-ups and push-ups, I can carry myself with confidence and my shoulders back, and sleep way better at night. Probably one the most attractive parts for me though is that our instructors always are pushing us. Even though I can’t always keep up with the group, I know that I’ve done all I can to do it and each time I’m getting closer.
That’s me in a very, very large nutshell. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it!
