Just testing this new Windows Live Writer. Looks pretty promising, but I kind of like the ability to edit my posts no matter where I am on any computer.
So far with WordPress, it will do pretty much everything related to posts that WordPress does via the web. Tags, categories, setting publishing dates, slugs, and more. However, I have one complaint as of this writing it doesn’t save drafts automatically to the web. It instead saves them to the local drive someplace (I don’t know where to yet). You can manually save your draft to the web which, while I would like it done automatically, is nice to have.
Writer seems to do a rather good job with marking up the text and knowing when and where to start and stop, maybe even better than the WordPress editor. Speaking of which, I’ve been very impressed lately with Microsoft’s editors when working with HTML, CSS, and XML. They seem to have gotten a good engine in place to parse the code, while working on it, to keep track of just about everything.
So check out the new Windows Live Tools, especially the new Messenger, Photo Gallery, and though I haven’t tried it, they’re even working on a new Movie Maker!
Edit: Editing blogs is pretty easy too! You can even do previous ones!
